Venice Simplon Orient Express
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express: A Journey That Belongs to Another Age —
and No Other
There are journeys that exist to move you from one place to another. And then there is the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express — a train on which the journey is, entirely and without qualification, the destination. Since 1982, the VSOE has threaded its way across the continent in carriages that were built in the 1920s and have lost none of their original grandeur: hand-inlaid marquetry panels, polished mahogany, crisp linen, and the particular luxury of a world that moves at the pace of a landscape rather than a timetable. True Luxury Travels arranges access to the VSOE and integrates the journey seamlessly with everything that surrounds it — the private transfer to the platform, the hotel at journey's end, the onward itinerary across Italy or Europe. Because a train this extraordinary deserves a journey built to match.
The train itself — a world in motion
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is composed entirely of original 1920s and 1930s carriages — seventeen sleeping cars, three restaurant cars, and a bar car — each individually restored to its period character. No two cabins are identical. The train carries fewer than 150 passengers on any given departure. Meals in the three dining cars are served on monogrammed china, accompanied by a wine list curated for the journey. The bar car — whose Lalique glass panels are among the most beautiful objects on any train in the world — is where the evening properly begins.
Cabin categories
The VSOE offers four accommodation categories, ranging from intimate twin cabins to the newly introduced
Grand Suites — each a singular expression of Art Deco design in motion.
-
Classic Twin Cabin
-
Double Cabin
-
Suite
-
Grand Suite — Paris, Vienna, Budapest
Note: availability on the VSOE is genuinely limited, particularly for Suites and Grand Suites on London–Venice departures. True Luxury Travels advises booking six to twelve months in advance for preferred dates.
Routes and journeys
The VSOE operates a number of routes across the year, each with its own character and its own rhythm. These are the journeys True Luxury Travels most frequently designs around the train.
-
London Victoria → Venice Santa Lucia
-
Venice → London — The Return in Equal Splendour
-
Paris → Venice — The Continental Overnight
-
Special Journeys — Istanbul, Prague & Beyond
-
Florence & Tuscany — Arrival by Train, Continued by Design

The train is a chapter. We write the whole story.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is one of the most requested experiences in luxury travel — and one of the most frequently under-designed. Most clients board the train with nothing arranged beyond the cabin, and disembark at Santa Lucia into the busiest station approach in Venice with no plan and no one waiting. True Luxury Travels treats the VSOE as what it is: not a transport option, but the centrepiece of a larger narrative. We build the days before the departure and the days after the arrival with the same attention we give to the journey itself. Because the Orient Express deserves an itinerary as carefully composed as its own carriages.
